How does this work with Apple Airpods? null

It works with Apple Airpods and you can change the volume. The tricks are 1) Open the airpods case, press and hold the white dot on the airpods case so that it can pair with non-apple devices. The light inside the case should be flashing white in this process. Search the Bluetooth device on your sony device and connect the airpods. 2) After the connection, you may encounter the problem that the volume can't be changed, as mentioned by other answers. You can solve it by going to the menu "Setting->Bluetooth: Audio Device Connection Settings -> Use Enhanced Mode". The small words under it say "Select this check box if you cannot change the volume". So just select it and now you are all set.

I was able to connect my Apple AirPods to my Sony Walkman MW-A40Serries. 1. Make sure your earbuds are in the AirPods charging case. 2. Open the AirPod case. 3, press the button on the back of the AirPod case (small white dot). 4. Press and hold the white dot until the green charge indicator light turns white and begins to flash. 5. Go to your Sony Walkman settings, Bluetooth, connect to/add bluetooth device and add Bluetooth (pairing). Your AirPods should display on your Sony Walkman. To make sure the volume works. 1. Go to settings, audio device connection settings. Check the box next to use enhanced settings. Sit back and enjoy.

Hi Panther61, This Walkman has a Bluetooth and you connect a Bluetooth headphone to this walkman. However, Apple AirPods cannot be used with products equipped with the AVRCP (A/V Remote Control Profile) Since the device uses the Bluetooth profile ver 4.2, it is not recommended for use with Apple AirPods. We recommend using Bluetooth headphones that support this Bluetooth profile. So apple Airpods is not guaranteed to work with this walkman.
