They have adaptive settings that you can set through the full spectrum of all noise cancelling all the time to hearing everything in the room while listening to music. Its what I like about them..

Also you need to use the Sony connect app to use these buds and it fails in me pretty often. If you have a android it might work better since their app has a 4 star review compared to the 2 on the iOS App Store. Hope it helps!
