Hi KeywestEd, thank you for inquiring about the WH-1000XM3. The headphones come with a 47” headphone cable that works with most aircraft, also included is a dual prong adaptor in-case you need it. The headphones and all accessories are stored in the included carry case. Erin

Basically, you just plug one part of the cable into the pair of headphones itself (left side, labeled INPUT) and the other side (3.5mm) obviously goes into the airplane jack. You can even leave the headphones OFF if you want to, but you won't get the noise-canceling feature, so I'd just recommend leaving the headphones on. When you purchase these headphones, it comes with a hard case so you can store the cable in there along with your headphones and headphone charger if you need to. Otherwise, you can always just wrap the cable up and stuff it in your pocket or a backpack.
