By comparing which profiles are supported by each device, you can determine how the two devices are able to communicate via Bluetooth. The WH1000XM4 is designed to support the following Bluetooth profiles:

-HFP (Hands-free Profile)

Hi Paul, you shouldn't have any issues with the headphones and your laptop. Bluetooth is made to be backwards compatible.
