They sure can Katie! Really good headphones they are. Really nice quality in terms of sound, comfort and new technology. Hope u get your hands on one while stocks last, I was lucky to pick up the last one in the store a couple days back.

They'll play whatever sound is coming from the source device. If you're that new to bluetooth headsets then maybe I'd start with a lower end Sony model. See what you like out of headsets first. A nice $150-$200 headset to start. You wanna know what kind of sound you like (more base, focus on mids and highs, neutral, etc), if noice canceling is off puting to you, etc.

The headphones can play anything from the Bluetooth device you pair them with.  I listen to Apple Music, watch Apple TV, and listen to podcasts with the XM4 headset.  These will do same.
