“I understand if a Tv supports blue tooth they'll work great. Do I need to switch the audio output on tv to blue tooth eliminating the tv speakers for others to hear while watching tv? I need them to work for a 80 year old man that has a hard time hearing”

Hi Steve, Thanks for the question. There is no need to switch audio output when you want to listen to your headphones when watching TV. When you successfully paired your headphones to your TV, the TV speakers will automatically be disabled and the sound will come out from your headphones.
