Edges are a bit higher than screen providing some protection. I put a screen protector on my phone then the speck case. Dropped my previous phone numerous times over the years with no issues.

I just purchased this item and t does not cover the front of the phone. My experience has been with the phone slipping out of my hand not actual dropping it directly down so I have been lucky with the phone landing flat on its back, so far.
