A:AnswerClosest to the hinge is left open, and it is a bit flappy there (the entire bottom portion of the case tends to slide off easily) so don't get too aggressive with flinging it around all over the place. I honestly bought a padded Case Logic case (also from BestBuy) to slide the laptop into for during the day when in transit, as I wanted the extra protection.
The corners of the top portion have already gotten a bit cracked, which is a mystery to me because I am extremely gentle with the device.
