Why wouldn't it be compatible? They are independent units that are not connected. The answer appears to be based on increasing sales revenue.  Details on "why" it's not compatible,  please.

Hello Bert, thank you for your interest in model PCG366W. A new cooktop would not be compatible with an older downdraft. The downdraft would have to be replaced as well.
