CRMB: For Over-The-Air TV (Free TV) he will need an antenna. He will not receive any cable or streaming channels. How many channels you pull in will depend upon your location, the station signal, and how decent your antenna is. I live in the Metro Boston - Providence area, and get over 50 OTA channels including sub-channels. I just have a small "Leaf" brand antenna. Happy Holidays.
