No, it actually comes out the bottom.

No it doesn't. Todays technologies, like Dolby Atmos® for instance, can make the sound appear to be coming from multiple directions and multiple sources. Your device (tv) has this built in. You'll find the speakers on the bottom edge of the front panel, firing downward. However, one can only expect any factory speakers to do the minimum job. Good for dialect(news shows), little else. You would do well to consider adding a 5.1 home entertainment system or at the very least a sound bar if space is limited. Hope you are pleased with your Toshiba. I don't work for them or am a salesperson. Just bought the same TV a couple weeks ago. Love this brand. You got a good one!
