“Can this be used with a Driect TV HD DVR Twice now I've lost my recordings on my DVR. And was told I should get an external hard drive. After reading the reviews, I'm hoping it does.”

You need an external hard drive with an AC power cord (the dvr USB port doesn't provide power to the hard drive like the ports on a computer). This one doesn't have external AC power, but apparently there is some special cable available according to the Toshiba web site. Good luck!
