“How bright are these outside on the roof line as compared to a normal string of lights? The lights also appear to be uni-directional like the light will only be brightest straight out from the bulb, is that true or are they multi-directional?”

Thank you for your interest! Below are the Lumen measurements for the 600 leds RGB strings: white:188lm, power 23.3W red:40lm, power 27.8W green: 125lm, power 26.9W blue:21lm, power 26.6W And they are uni-directional. Hope this helps!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.they are very bright and look awesome. However, yes, they are, I'd estimate, between 75-85% forward facing. The construction is such that is is basically like plastic barrel on a more conventional wire line. The barrel is then capped by a small disc of the actual LED light source. So, there is a little bit of a "side" if you will of color as this is a 3 dimensional disc that caps the barrel (likely of the actual electronics that make the individual light work). So, you can get a little light/color looking at the side, but, unlike a conventional bulb, the vast majority of the light is forward facing, so mounting on a roof or eave, you'd definitely want to tack the line on both ends beside the barrel to keep it static and forward facing outwards
