I am using my telescoping flag pole to make a mega tree. Are the strands strong enough to hang from the top of the pole without additional support? I make the tree now with Green LED lights, but would love to upgrade to the Twinkly lights null

Yes. They are standard insulated Christmas lights, but I would leave a little slack in the strings in case the pole moves.  Otherwise, it'll pull the stakes out.
