• You do not need separate speakers. It has great sound with the built in speakers.

• Please note that the Bluetooth is for incoming music only. You cannot use the Bluetooth connection to send the music on the record you are playing to better speakers. (You can hard wire into better speakers using the line out connection though.) I would say the speakers are ok. Not great. My mini JBL wireless speaker has better sound, but this is more similar to how a portable record player would have sounded in the 70's and 80's.
