The USB drive with pictures and videos can be connected directly to the USB ports on the monitor and be seen by the computer. The monitor itself wouldn't be seeing your files but it would send the data back to the computer as if you were connecting directly to the USB ports on the computer. In this way it provides some additional USB-A ports to use. To ensure the data is routed back to the computer and seen, you will need to either connect using USB-C or use an additional cable (USB-B) with HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA etc.
