Hi, the blender is loud, but the performance it provides warrants it. I don’t believe it’s loud enough that you would need hearing protection, most of the noise it produces comes from the fan it uses to help keep the motor cool while in use. The blending takes less than 60 seconds for just about every you are going to be blending (with the exception of hot soups, which need more time). I use this blender 6 days a week, and to me the mild inconvenience of the sound it produces does not outweigh the unrivaled quality of its blending capabilities by any means. I hope this helps.
