“I have existing rear speakers mounted in my ceiling. It sounds like I should be able to connect those speakers to the subwoofer. Is there any special/proprietary wiring issues that would prevent this?”

There should be wires that go into the speakers and into the back of the subwoofer. There’s a wire for the left speaker and a wire for the right speaker and don’t mix them up but there color coordinated so hopefully that helps
