I would recommend using the optical digital audio output offered on most high-end displays to connect to an external audio system. Good sound bar-based systems are not expensive & most use wireless sub-woofers to produce outstanding sound in a small area. You can go up from there in cost & complexity all the way to a 7.2 channel Dolby Atmos system. Many systems can be controlled via apps on smart phones or tablets.
