I see it has and Ethernet port.. but what is it being used for?

The tv can use wifi or a Ethernet cable to connect to your network. You will need to connect to your network to communicate with other devices and to update the TVs firmware.

The display can be connected through Ethernet.  The tablet would connect wirelessly to your home network to Cast content to the home theater display.  Thanks! -Randal
