• It doesn't. The sound 'cone' adds 5/16" (0.3125") to each side for a total of 42" (42.005") when the cones are deployed.

• The 41.38" measurement DOES NOT include the end buttons when they are in the out position. The main body of the sound bar is 41.38" the buttons, when in the out position, add approximately .5 - .75".
