I use an nvidia shield tv with my sound bar. I think this has to do with your steaming devices or tv. I get 5.1 when the content is 5.1 and 2.1 when the content is not 5.1 automatically. There’s an option on my shield to make all 2.1 into 5.1. I can turn this feature on and off. But for the most part my shield will do it automatically.
