You could, check with the router though to see if the hard drive needs to be formatted a certain way to work though. NTFS should work, but check first.

No. Well possibly, but only if your router has NAS capabilities, which it most likely doesn’t. You either need to buy a NAS dock or install NAS software on your computer. You should look up your exact router model to see if it has NAS.
