Yes, can be removed from case and installed internally as a standard SATA drive. For NAS software, look into TrueNAS if you want redundancy for storage and backup, or UnRAID if you're just looking for bulk storage.

As long as you have nas software to test block integrity. Look up freeNAS github for working software.
