There is a test that Microsoft has to see whether a specific PC can be upgraded to Win 11. Google "Windows 11 upgrade for my pc" and you should be able to find it. There might also be an older test for Win 10; Google the above and substitute "10" for "11". Same for Win 8 (Win 8.1 would be a better choice). No upgrade, however, would need this drive, unless your old Acer has a HDD with somewhere near this much worth of files--unlikely, unless you have multiple HDDs. Upgrading is NOT recommended, however, if, as you say, you are not computer literate, unless it is a matter of lack of money and you are willing to put in the time to learn what to do. For the price of this drive, you can get a PC, desktop or laptop that will blow your old Acer out of the water (again, unless it was a super-performing device when you originally obtained it).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This product is mostly used to store files like pictures, music, and other things you want to keep safe. There is a way to install a full operating system into the external drive but that would NOT be a good idea- it would be too complex, and not worth it anyway. In terms of this product, closest match for your needs would be saving a recovery file that backs up your pc if something goes wrong... To achieve what you are asking about, either purchase an internal storage drive or simply install the new operating system over your copy of windows 7. Install/upgrade is pretty straight forward, or Geek Squad can easily help you as well.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.First of all, it’s highly unlikely that your Acer can be upgraded to Win 11. As for running Windows 10 from this external drive, in theory it might be possible but if you aren’t computer savvy then I think it might be beyond your skillset. It might be possible to just upgrade the existing Win7 installation to Win 10. I did this on an old HP laptop but again, it’s not totally straightforward. I hope this helps.
