“if I were to load this hard drive up to 90% with MP3's, will it operate on a Pioneer AVH-3400NEX without popping errors- that the drive is too large for the receiver to handle? Better yet,what's the max size external drive I can plug in to my car unit?”

Normally most units will read up to 64gb storage devices with no problem. Seeing as this unit is of good name brand and quality it could read higher volume devices but I don't believe any will read 2tb drives. Ask Google she should tell you.
