So if youe use it with MacOS you need to format the drive to a Mac Compatible format. Open up Finder, under your applications folder there should be a folder called "Utilities". Within that folder you are looking for the application called "Disk Utility". Once you open the application you should see your new drive on the sidebar on the left. Select it, then select "Erase" which is found on the top part of the screen. You will be prompted with a small window where you can change the name of your drive so it is easier to identify so I suggest you rename it. You will also be asked what format you want to use for which I usually use APFS unless you would like to use the drive with a windows machine as well in which case I recommend setting it to ExFat. Once you click erase your computer will take care of the rest and when it's done you should see the drive appear on your desktop. Hope this helps

Tt comes preformatted in the NTFS file system for Windows operating system. If you are using a Mac computer then the drive needs to be formatted in the HFS+J file system for operation.
