It can if you used a Camera Connection Kit and a Powered USB 3.x Hub. The lightning port by itself doesn't output enough power to run this drive. For newer iPad Pros with USB-C connectors, you could just use a USB-C to USB 3.0 Micro B cable. Either way, you'd need to format this drive using a computer first to a supported format (I believe that would be either ExFAT, HFS+, or APFS).
