I don't think so, the school computers are usually restricted, so unless you have administration password it will not let you boot anything other than Mac OS. Besides USB hard drive and flash drive are quite slow for operating system, plus you need special tools to install on USB drive that will be bootable. Other than that you can download on any drive wether is hard disk, ssd or usb.
