“Is the vent on the front top of the door for recirc. vent fan configuration only or is it required for microwaving as well? I plan to build the cabinet above the microwave so the cab. door is flush with the microwave door, I plan to vent outside.”

Hello FlushUpperCabinet! The fan will come on automatically to cool the control panel if needed if the controls get too hot from the range below. We recommend the microwave be installed per the Installation Instructions for proper installation.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Fan built in will come on when microwaving for long periods of time, especially when using the convection aspect. AND... it will automatically come on when the unit senses heat from below going above threshold (because it's usually mounted above a stovetop).
