Is this fridge energy efficient null

NO. This unit it NOT Energy efficient. Don't believe what Whirlpool tries to tell you. Not only is it NOT EnergyStar rated, its rating on the US Government's Energy Guide is 436kw/hr -- perhaps better than refrigerators made years ago but I was comparing it to other similar-sized, without-icemaker units (icemakers make it a LOT less efficient) and that 436 was as high as I saw. I saw others by other makers (GE, Haier, Frigidaire, etc) for similar 20.X sized units that were 386 and 393. In the end, I bought this unit because I wanted the larger freezer space and it was affordable, but as someone who is very energy conscious, it really hurt. Don't use the 12c/kwh rates the yellow & black stickers use when figuring out the real cost (it's only for comparison), most places are much higher. Here in SCE areas, the bottom tier (of 3 tiers) is 16c/khw, and the middle and higher tiers are much higher. I figured this unit will cost about $7.50 - $9.00 more per year than the efficient EnergyStar ones. It if lasts 10 years, that's around $80 more, $160 more if it lasts 20 years (my last Whirlpool only lasted 12 years before the compressor failed, forcing me to buy a new refrigerator). Again, I did buy this unit in the end because it was affordable and had the larger freezer space I wanted, I just wish it was more energy efficient. And seeing someone from Whirlpool say it is makes me angry, because it is NOT. Just compare the Energy Guide number with other sized, similar refrigerators (top-freezer style, 20.X size, NO icemaker) and you'll see for yourself.

No, it's not energy efficient. It's NOT EnergyStar rated either. It's better than a unit from 25 years ago, but its 436kw/hr rating is high compared to similar units that are energystar rated that are 386 or 393.

It depends on where you keep it. If you keep it in the garage and you live in the north you have to keep your garage above 55 degrees which is a total waste of energy. If you keep it inside it's probably fine.

So I replaced a 35 year old basement beer fridge with this one. The old one still kept things cold, but the seals weren't tight, the plastic was all deteriorating, the ice cream was soft, so I was hoping to buy a new 'much more efficient' refrigerator. Well, I am only lukewarm glad I made the replacement. Yes, this fridge keeps things cold, and the freezer freezes the food very well. And this one is larger than the 17 cu ft it replaced, with a large, spacious freezer compartment. But, even though I rarely open it, it seems to be running pretty much every time I go into the basement. The basement is pretty cool, and I'm just not opening the fridge door very often. I would expect it to not run much at all. I am concerned about its energy consumption. Also, this fridge is kind of loud. Not real obnoxious, but it's loud enough to hear it running. Overall, the good price makes this an okay buy.

All of the paper work says it is. I’ll let you know when I get my electric bill!!
