I can get 12 plates and 6 bowls in the bottom, however I think it depends on how you load the machine. The one nice thing about this machine, is that they give you extra space on the side that you can use for cookie sheets, baking pans, large weird shaped object, and they won't get in the way of the flywheel. KEEP YOUR OLD UTENSIL DRAWER IF YOU HAVE HAD A WHIRLPOOL! It is much larger and can hold more than the new utensil drawer. You will have to use the top rack for large utensils, because it doesn't have the door utensil rack that the old one had, which is a bummer.

I think you could get a 10 place setting in it. I have a 4 place setting and there is still plenty of room. Bottom rack has spaces for 10 plates. Top rack has room for more than 10 cups, etc.

Hello chipper, it really depends on the size of your dishes and if you are putting anything else in the dishwashers with your plates.
