controls are at top and not visible when shut. You have to set them when you are ready before you shut the door and hit start. Start numbers 4 seconds to quickly close and it will finish on its on. I set it at bedtime about 3 times a week. Next day ready to empty everything clean.

Touch controls are on top of the door along with digital timers. The timers can be seen from certain angles when the door is closed. Also has a very small light on the front that is blue when running and white when clean. The third (top) rack was not something we found necessary when researching, but is fantastic in everyday use. I would recommend this model.
