Material is some kind of sensitized plastic. Control buttons are incorporated within the plastic matrix just like Whirlpool does on the laundry dryers, microwaves, etc. Plasticized surface is colored black with embedded control selections incorporated therein.

There is plastic layer going over the whole top of the control panel. It’s a smooth durable plastic layer. It’s not a soft playable plastic.

Yes, it’s a plastic membrane across the controls. It’s same as our previous dishwasher that lasted 14 years. The control membrane was still good. So far this dishwasher cleans very good and is super quiet.
