In response to Whirlpool's answer, I read the care instructions from the manual provided. They do not mention anything about how to remove the drawers in the freezer, which was my question. It seems like a flaw in the design if we can't remove these drawers, as the only way to clean them without having the water from the sponge freeze is to empty the freezer completely, turn it off to let it warm up, and then clean it, which is not practical.

When you have finished, reconnect the refrigerator to the electrical source and turn Cooling ON. See “Using the Control(s).
