Hello Picky1, The ice maker can be turned off. Make sure to turn off the water supply if the ice maker will be turned off for long durations. If the ice maker is left on without a water supply, the Refrigerator will try and reduce the temperature to kick start ice production.

Yes, of course. It's just a water line that is connected in the back. The water can be turned off or the line can be disconnected.
