“A 15 3/4" wide cutout is specified even though the wine cooler is specified as only 15" wide. That's a large difference. Is there a reason for such a wide cutout? Does the wine cooler need extra room on the sides to "breath"?”

Hello WineCooly, the WUW35X15DS does need the roughly 3/8" on each side, makes moving the Wine Cellar for service as well as installation easier.
