Hello Sue, Please make sure you are selecting Bake or Broil first then selecting your temperature. If you are still having concerns, we would recommend contacting Whirlpool® at 800-253-1301. We are available M -F 8 am to 6 pm est. They will be better able to assist you.

Answer

You don't anything about hitting the bake or broil buttons.  They have to selected before setting temp and then selecting the start button.
