How often do you change it null

You change the filter when your fridge tells you to. There's a panel of colors on mine that let's me know. On others you should keep up with the date. I would change it if the water or ice cubes tasted bad. I hope this helps.

it varies depending on how much you use it... i drink a lot of water and the previous one lasted about 5 months.

I was told every 6 months by the gentleman who installed my fridge. He did say that depending on how much you use it that you may have to install it later or earlier.
