Your iphone volume does control volume but the initial volume is controlled at the receiver. My receiver is located in the garage and I can use it outside for about 50 yards.
Great for around the pool when the receiver is inside.

If you are connected via your phone to a music app, you can control the volume with the phone, otherwise you have to go to the volume knob or use the remote which by the way is Infrared therefore can’t have any obstacles (including walls) between the tip of the remote and the IR receiver in the amp.
