I had the same issue as I purchased a Sony 950 and have an older (10 years) Yamaha receiver. You can not use the HDMI Arc connection for sound, it won't recognize the device. You can still use the old receiver but you will have to use the optical connection for you to get sound. Mind you, that it will not be in 4K audio. That is why I bought a 4K compatible receiver (RX-V385).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Don't know what you are trying to connect and to what brand TV. Its a SONY with the latest software (Android Oreo) then there is an issue with the Bravia Sync and Arc. If its this case you need a non-cec hdmi adapter for sources connected to the Yamaha.

This receiver has HDMI 2.1 so if you need to upgrade, you will be future proofed more with this. Sound quality on this is great. I'm very pleased with it
