• Yes in fact it does not come with an HDMI wire it comes with an optical wire. If not connected with an HDMI wire then you have to use the sound bar remote to turn it on and off. The HDMI wire Will allow the TV remote to control the sound bar

• Yes.... if the TV has an analog audio output or optical output, the Yamaha SR-C20 possesses other inputs in addition to the HDMI Arc input. I am currently using the soundbar with a 4K computer monitor with no audio outputs. I had to get an HDMI audio splitter, which takes an HDMI input, taps the audio to optical output, and passes the video through to the monitor. Most HD TVs will have an optical output you can use.
