• You must use the sound bar remote. Optical connectors only send the digital version of the sound and cannot control volume. I recommend using a universal remote that will control all your devices.

• No, the TV remote cannot control the volume. You can download the Yamaha Sound Bar Remote app to you phone and can control the soundbar volume as well as adjust the bass via Bluetooth, very easy-nothing to setup. Just turn on Bluetooth on you phone (no synching needed), open the app and your set.

• I couldn't say. I use the hdmi connection to my hdmi-arc port. All volume controls (cable box and streaming control) work as before. The soundbar allows you to set the base volume level.
