Hello, The width of the hood should be equal to the width of the cooktop or range. For every 3 inches beyond the recommended mounting height, increase the width of the range hood by 3 inches on each side to prevent the smoke and contaminants from escaping the ventilation zone. Gas cooking appliances have the highest emissions and typically need a range hood with higher CFM compared to electric (radiant and induction) cooking appliances. Gas Cooking Appliance: Divide the total BTUs by 100 60,000 BTU’s ÷ 100 = 600 CFM. Thank you for your inquiry! -Zephyr
