The jury is still out on this

I recently purchased this because of the good reviews to replace my Net Talk which has been giving me problems with disconnects. Setup was NOT easy. It will NOT communicate with my Belkin router. I had to install it ahead of the router by connecting it directly to my internet modem and am uneasy about this for security reasons. I was also hoping to use their phone app to get voicemail and call notifications, but the app has such a low rating and bad reviews that I am not going to do that now. Time will tell if this is better then Net Talk but right now I am unimpressed.

Expensive mistake in the long run

I had OOMA for several years and the service is pretty good for the monthly price. But it has several problems. First is a lack of features compared to other VOIP carriers. Secondly, their Telo box is expensive since I had to replace it twice, always just after the warranty expired. So after the third box died, I wised up and took my service to another VOIP carrier whose monthly fee is less, has many more features, and the connection router is 1/8 the cost. Then OOMA continued to charge my credit card for five months after they ported my telephone number to the other carrier. And finally, they refused to refund their overcharge! I cannot recommend them, but there are many VOIP competitors.

    Long distance problems

Set up was easy. I have both the Ooma phone set and a Panasonic set working and attaching both turned out to be a non event. Calls are clear and voice delay is there but not that you would consider it troublesome. My one problem is calling long distance. My family lives in Tennessee and I live in Tampa, Florida. When I dial their area code and 7 digit number, Ooma truncates the number down to the area code and 4 of the 7 digits and connects with a local telephone number in Tampa. I talked to an Ooma tech rep and he suggested that I place a "1" first, then the full number. I tried that as well without success. This is pretty frustrating. I've been able to make other long distance calls to other area codes without any problems.

Not a company that takes care of customers

We tried Ooma, and the service didn't work well in our situation. That happens, not a big problem. We pre-paid, but i did not ask for a refund. 2 years later I get a call that they are sending me to collection because my account is overdue. I called in and they were unhelpful. Rather than canceling my account that hadn't been used in years, they said I had to pay before they could close the account. Rather then treating me well and having a positive review from me, they chased after a fairly small amount and now will get honest and poor reviews. This is not a company that wants to take care of customers

Don’t believe all the positive reviews

I have two of these devices. 1 in my house in GA. 1 in my house in Fla. The one in GA was ordered with Amazon It arrived and worked perfectly. We lose power and internet but it come right back on. MY second unit is in Fla. I picked it up at Best Buy. It never worked right. I called the company as instructed instead of returning it to Best Buy. They sent me a refurbished unit. It had different issues. Very hard to get it to glow purple. Every time Fla flicker and flash drops power or AT&T burp I lose my phone service. I have had it now for about a year. You don’t want to replace it when it is working but I can never tell when it will stop working. Is it possible I have two lemons? If the unit in agGA didn’t work so well I would switch to another company. Customer service is a joke. You can not understand any of them. I am sure they can all answer three questions in English but that does not mean they can communicate effectively in English. I have to call back 4 or 5 times to get someone who can communicate and think out side of the script they have to read. They always end by asking you if their service was fantastic for you. If you attempt to answer how poor it was they cut you off. Sometimes there product works but the audio is distorted. It is good enough for most voices but their are a few that are incomprehensible. No I would not buy again

    Defective Products

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It was completely laughable! I purchased one online and it wasn’t supported, so I ordered one from Best Buy. When I called Oomo the guy was incredibly rude and kept telling me that I was giving him the wrong product number. I finally got a decent rep who told me that it was recalled. When I contacted Best Buy, I was forced to troubleshoot anyway and finally gotten approved for the exchange. They sent me another dud, I had to physically bring both defective phones back to Best Buy for my refund.

Complete waste of money and time.

Do Not purchase this phone system! I did and am totally regretting it. It has been nothing but problems since I installed it. Every time you try to contact Ooma customer support, it takes at least 30 minutes before anyone picks up the line. Then they just lie to you about the problems and extremely poor quality of their phone system/service. Trust me, a complete waste of your money and will only lead to extreme frustration. I just went through a three-time speed test and got extremely fast speeds through our internet service provider Starlink each time. The customer service person told me my speeds of 250mbps download, 5mbps upload, ping of 18ms and jitter of 3-8ms was way too slow. Of course, be blamed their consistent extremely poor service on our internet service provider, like they always do… You can not even have a simple phone conversation with anyone, poor quality and drops calls consistently.

Doesn't work with T-Mobile home internet

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We used to have a home phone via Xfinity's voice over internet and that worked fine, but we had to drop Xfinity when their cable TV service quit working at our residence. We got T-Mobile 5G home internet and Dish satellite TV instead and saved a lot of money. Still wanting a home phone, we bought Ooma Telo, noting that their web site said the device works with T-Mobile 5G home internet. In short, it doesn't. It was easy to set up and it works fine for outgoing calls, but on incoming calls the caller hears nothing but a garbled mess. We've spent hours talking to both Ooma and T-Mobile tech support and have gotten nowhere. Perhaps this works with some internet service providers, but not with ours. Buyer beware.

    They will still your money.

Been with Ooma for over 10 years for business and personal. Transferred business line away and canceled service. 6 months later I noticed I was still being billed. Called in and I was told I wasn’t billed for 3 months so I could sell my equipment (that I never agreed to sell, and I owned). Took talking to multiple people to get it cancelled and they refunded my two months. Canceled personal line and again later found that they were still billing me and have been trying to cancel for over 20 minutes for the second time. Left on hold. This company has crooked cancelation policies and are deceitful and dishonest. Would not recommend to my worst enemies. Much cheaper better solutions.

    lacking support

This product is garbage and there is minimal support. The directions out of the box didnt work so i had to make 3 calls to get someone to pickup the phone to help me activate it. They now have an app for activation but no were in the directions or support is aware of the new process. The LTE netstick is this clunky lego puzzle that doesnt connect to anything. Again support will not help with it.

    Impossible to cancel service

Be prepared to have to call and go through 10 prompts to find a customer service rep to cancel your service. I can't wait for the government to regulate these slimy companies from making us waste time and energy canceling a service that takes 5 seconds to subscribe to online. Never subscribe to a service online that requires you to cancel by phone. Complete scam.

Not good if you don't control the WiFI router

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We bought it for my elderly mother who was moving into an assisted-living home. There were many reliability problems that caused it to go offline all the time. Ooma tech support might have been able to talk me through a fix if I controlled the WiFi router and network -- changing settings on the router -- but not with a "public" router that I don't control.

Very, very difficult to cancel service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The service is decent, but if you ever want to downgrade your account you have to chat or call. Chat was much faster for me. However, if you want to cancel your service, you have to call in and they will keep you on eternal hold and once you get through you have to go through the hard sell. They will do everything they can to retain your account. If you ever tried to cancel AOL back in the day you know what I am talking about. You have been warned.

    Didn't work well

I got an Ooma and tried to get it to work over 30 days. I experienced dropped calls, voice delays, calls that just kept on ringing, calls that never rang, and calls that got "ported" into someone else's call. Overall I had approx. 50% success rate with making a call. Ooma Cust. service was good but I couldn't work out the problems. Decided to return it.

Drops calls and ooma is selling their customer #

OOMA is horrible do not buy it. When you try to quit they will not allow you. OOMA keeps your credit card number and sells the information. We had a couple sales calls and they all said they got our number from. OOMA. I do not like their machine because it is constantly dropping calls and made of cheap material parts of the OOMA unit burnt out and we had to constantly buy a new one with service fee. OOMA is a scam and they make their money tricking customers. do not buy from them. Once you are hooked you can not get out they keep sending you bills relentlessly.
