They are not a "used up in a year" item and no one wants later in life. These are a permanent fixture in a "cooks" kitchen and they (Kitchen Aid) are some of the best at it. This item is well made, heavy duty, could be used commercially kind of well built. You cannot go wrong with a Kitchen Aid; it's an investment.
