A slightly clunky setup is the only thing holding this recommendation from 5 stars. Enabling ARC and HDR settings are deeply buried on menu system that is not shown on TV but on receiver display. Other than that, works great.

Which I'm happy to say is excellent! My previous device promised that but it was more of an upgrade than passthrough. Plenty if options for speaker sound fine tuning.

It was a great receiver, but...

While I was able to get all the glorious 4K HDR that I wanted, I could not for the life of me get the ARC channel to work with my Series 4 Roku. I tried every setting that made sense between the TV and the receiver but could not get it to even see it as a CEC device on the network - though it did see a device connected to it, so I knew that it wasn't a cable issue in that regard. After a week of fumbling with settings, I returned it and am now just using a Yamaha soundbar...with ARC working crystal clear.

This is usually not the case for our AV receivers nor the experience we want you to have.

Works like it should

Sends around 145 watts per channel, which work prefect for my larger floor speakers. Works well with my sony TV although Sony intentionally makes their TV's incompatible with receivers.

Great Until It Dies After 14 Months

Owned for 1 year when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This unit worked great for 14 months until one day it just powered off and went into protect mode every time I tried to restart it. I went through all the troubleshooting steps in the manual before calling Sony support, as it has a two-year warranty. They sent a prepaid box, and I sent it for repair. Upon their review, I was told that the unit has corrosion damage, which voids the manufacturer’s warranty, and that the damage was extensive enough that the unit could not be reliably repaired. The receiver was in a location with central air, plenty of air circulation, and no potential for liquid spills, yet the repair facility cannot explain how the corrosion could have happened. So now I'm out a $350+ receiver after just over a year, which is ridiculous. I suspect that these units must be stored in warehouses that are not temperature and humidity controlled and sent to stores with corrosion already started. I'm not sure how else multiple failures of the same models for corrosion within the two-year warranty can be explained (other examples of "corrosion" to the same model were found online). I've always been a loyal Sony fan due to their previous quality and reputation, but it's time to start looking at other manufacturers with equipment worth the investment. I am thoroughly disappointed in the quality of this receiver and the "support" received.
