This receiver is a prime example. My Bose hardwired surround system exposes the lack of clarity inherent in this amp. Spend a little more or opt for another brand. Very disappointed.

We sincerely apologize if our STR-DH590 didn't live up to your expectations. This is certainly not the experience we were hoping you would have. While we are not sure what audio video device you have this receiver connected to, you may try changing the sound field of the receiver according to the speaker connection & input source, and adjusting its equalizer to isolate the problem:

Because input sources vary in the quality, type, and strength of the signal being received, it is normal for the overall volume/sound quality to differ from input source to input source. You may also try checking/adjusting the settings related to the sound of the connected audio video device to further isolate your audio issue.

We value any feedback, no matter how small is. If you have difficulties getting everything synced, you may try the following steps: Ensure all cables are securely connected between the receiver, TV, and any connected devices (such as DVD players, Blu-ray players, or game consoles). Make sure the firmware on your TV and receiver is up to date. Look up the latest updates for the STR-DH590 and your TV model (if it is a Sony TV) on the Sony support website. Here is the link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support. Try clearing External Inputs Data by Disconnect external inputs, turn off CEC, reconnect devices, and turn CEC back on. This may help to reset the external input data. I hope you find this information helpful and make easier to sync your devices. Best regards. -Ismael

If you have Dolby Vision or HDR10, it won’t work with this receiver. The UI interface is too basic and it’s difficult to find advanced settings to troubleshoot any issues. I emailed Sony support and they gave me a half baked answer with a guide on how to do it with another receiver (not mine). I’m probably going to return this.

A few weeks ago this particular unit was on sale for ~$250 (both at Amazon and Best Buy). The open box (excellent condition) was offered at ~$200 at Best Buy. I chose to buy Open Box Excellent, thinking about a small saving while still getting a good unit. I was wrong. I was sent a faulty unit that would auto shutoff in less than 5 sec. When I took it to a local Best Buy for an exchange, I was told that I could only get a refund because they do not exchange Open Box product. By then the price of the unit had increased to $350 (new) or $319 (Open Box excellent). I told them about missing the opportunity to get the unit at a discounted price, if not exchanged. They said we understand and apologize for this situation but there is nothing we can do about it and I was referred to the Customer Service online. I tried to explain this to the customer service, but besides an apology they did not have a solution to rectify their mistake. So, I am at loss of net $150 because someone at Best Buy did not inspect the open box unit. Also, because the Best Buy return/exchange policy for open box products does not account for their own error. Be ware!
