Says on the screen when audio is in atmos. Does take some programming with the help of the book to get set up correctly for my speaker set up. Sounds good. Turns on/off automatically with the Apple TV or when I connect my phone with Bluetooth. Plenty of power for my 145w rms speakers.

I have always loved the quality of Sony and this unit is no eception. Great feayures, multiple ports and easy to setup. I matched it with all Sony speakers and it sounds amazing.

It's primary use will be for our home theater. It's more than capable of driving our speaker towers, subwoofer and satellite speakers. Sounds great.

Great sound at a low price

I was expecting at least equal sound, but I got a big surprise! The sound quality was much better than my previous unit. I bought it on sale during Xmas and it was only $20 more than the 5.2 channel receiver. Plus it came a few more features! Definitely give this receiver a chance.

It can be easily customized once you read the manual. The quick setup instructions will get you going quick. But I highly recommend downloading the entire manual for more detailed reference. It has a lot of great features. I have it matched with a Sony tv and I'm enjoying the freedom of just using one remote to control everything.

Worth the wait

I kept telling her that I was not getting what I wanted from my 4K TV and 4K BluRay DVD player because my receiver was so old that it had no HDMI ports and my audio was going through an optical cable. I have a total surround sound speaker set-up so in order to take advantage of the whole package I needed a new receiver. Well I couldn't be happier with the results. I can understand all of the voices now because all dialogue comes from my center speaker while all other sounds and effects come from my other speakers. And to hear things travel from right to left or front to back is what I knew I was missing. I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone who wants or needs to upgrade their system after upgrading to 4K and not having the right receiver to drive it.

Works great I am hearing effects in movies and songs that I haven’t heard before. The receiver is a phenomenal deal to have Atmos at a great price point. I have it set up as a 5.1 system and it’s amazing so I can only imagine adding 2 more speakers to make it Atmos. Great Equipment!!!!

Sony replaces my Denon

Much more intuitive switching between other devices attached to the Sony. For example: when I turn on Apple TV, the Sony knows and switches over to that device without me having to hit the button…the Denon didn’t do that. Plus I had issues with the Denon firmware updates and caused the unit to crash and unrecoverable without having to send it to a factory service center. This led me to shop for another receiver and choose the Sony. The Sony has great sound, however the onscreen controls could be better. It takes a bit of efforts to try to get the speakers tuned for the room, and could use more controls to customize a bit further. The Calibration tool works some of the time, yet, when it failed and got a Error message, didn’t provide any real data on what exactly was the error. I also didn’t find a way to set the speaker settings back to default, if needed. The modes were adequate, for Music, Sports etc. Yet, I found myself having to modify these to my liking. Bottom line, Sony makes a great unit, much better than any of the Denons I’ve had in the past.

Also supports Dolby Vision. 4 HDMI’s for components and an ARC HDMI port for your TV, if it supports it. Obviously you woukd need to pay much more for a “better” receiver, mored HDMIs, features, etc. For this price point tho it makes for an excellent entry level AVR for an Atmos/ DTS:X set up.

The sound is great and set up was pretty easy. Paired it with the Klipsch floor and bookshelf speakers and I am very pleased thus far. Plan to add a sub woofer and the center speakers at some point and believe it will be an outstanding system. As is it is already great.

Nice quality receiver

Place the provided microphone in the center of the living room and bamn, The unit sends all the signals on auto setup and pre sets speakers distances from the microphone and adjusts the db levels to balance sound for 7.1 and 5.1 Dolby etc.
