Love Astro gaming headsets! Battery life is decent and the fact that it is wireless is amazing. Using the headset for extended periods of time is also a plus because your ears or at least mine do not get hot or bothered. Build quality is also great. Only way I can see this being improved is if it was upgraded to a usb type c connection.

I have owned the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Astro. Each last for over 5 years so their quality is SO good. I just came from the SteelSeries Arctis Pro 9s which only lasted about 2 1/2 years before they broke down You can look online to see about their thin plastic hinges that wear under normal use. Anyways back to the Astros, glad to be back to them. I forgot how good the audio quality is on these, they really are night and day over the Arctis Pro 9s with the Astros have more bass and mids. I was worried about not having the swappable battery which was the real reason I wanted the Arctis Pros but boy do these keep a charge and putting them on the dock when you walk away for a couple mins really charges them quick. I can game at time for 10+ hours plus at a time when really determined and never have found myself without a charge. The only downside to these is that they are not as comfortable for long gaming as the Arctis Pro 9s. There is a modkit that Astro sells for the A50s which really did solve this issue. The cups in the modkit are leather and the headband which was the discomfort is now leather with a better foam. I highly recommend getting the modkit. After you get the kit then these headsets are FLAWLESS.

Near Perfect gaming headset. Pros: Big head friendly aka me. Looks great, sounds great, great software for PC, great mic, solid battery life just remember to charge before bed will last you all day. Cons: Slightly heavy but for me it didn't bother me at all, Top headband foam piece wears out and will pop off after so long, and sometimes the wireless signal will make crackly noise doesn't happen always just rare instances, sometimes won't connect to receiver again rarely happens, if you have glasses it will hurt after very long gaming sessions but usually don't bother at least for me. Long time user and fan of Astro overall great IMO the best gaming headset. However, I am looking to upgrade to Audio headphones I recommend this for streamers on PC for higher quality but if your just a gamer get these.

Needless to say, I was extremely excited to receive and use my newly purchased A50's. This was primarily due to the long-standing hype that Astro consistently produces the best gaming headsets on the market. Initially, I was thoroughly impressed, the headset is designed well (aluminum trusses for durability), and is one of the more comfortable headsets I've used (Plantronics RIG 800 is still more comfortable IMO). Setup is rather straightforward, although you do have to wait several hours for the headset to fully charge before using it for the first time. Once up and running the headsets sound quality is absolutely superb, especially when used in conjunction with Dolby Atmos (a 2-yr subscription is included). You will definitely notice an enhanced spatial awareness while gaming with the way in which the headset is engineered. If anyone is still reading this review at this point, you are probably thinking to yourself that all of the above information is all 5-star worthy, why the 3-stars. Well, if you're like me, you are making this purchase to do some form of online multiplayer. I normally play FPS's with friends, and this is where all the problems arise. The Game/Chat Mixing on this headset is absolutely atrocious. Most headsets incorporate a dial to allow the user to blend their preferred amount of game volume vs chat volume. However, the Gen4 A50 game/chat mixer is located on the external aspect of the right ear muff and is modulated by clicking it forward or to the rear to adjust between game/chat. When you go to either extreme (all game, or all chat) you will hear an audible cue of two rapid beeps and you will also receive an audible cue of one beep when you are at a 50/50 blend between the two. But one click of the button in either direction does not equate to movement of one position in the scale between the two extremes. More often than not, I have attempted to slightly increase the game volume over the chat volume just to have the headset randomly go all the way to the extreme of all game with no chat, while attempting to dial it back the headset will then go all the way to all chat and no game. This problem has been a reoccurring theme ever since I have had the headset. Suffice it to say that this is extremely frustrating and basically makes using this headset for online multiplayer completely pointless/useless, which is what I purchased this headset for. If you are watching a movie, listening to music or playing a game where chatting with a friend and needing to hear the finer details of the game are not a priority, then it's a great sounding headset. But for me, the game/chat mixing design on this absolute garbage.

Can’t say enough good things about these, they can be worn for 6+ hours and are very comfortable, they go around your ears so they don’t press on them. Battery life is good. The mic had issues bout a recent firmware update corrected it. Range is over 30 feet they are pricey but worth it if you can get them on sale would be a bonus. I use these on pc

Very good headphones but I feel they are overpriced. They are not night and day better than something half the price. The only redeeming quality over another headset is being able to dock and charge them. If that is worth an extra $150 then great, if not there are a few more comfortable and equally as good sounding options at $200 and below

The Astro A50 offers good sound quality but its high price tag is hard to justify. While the charging dock is convenient, it might not be worth the extra cost compared to other comfortable and similarly performing options.

IF you can get past needing to use a micro USB and the optical cable for console use, the A50s is an almost perfect wireless gaming headset. The quality of sound isn't near perfect but that ability to change your sound settings in the Command Center app is a great feature that can amplify the gaming experience and listening experience for everything else like for music and watching videos. The battery life is great and the charging dock has a minimal footprint on any surface you place it on. The microphone is notoriously not as well for any Astro headset I have owned in the past but it still is usable. The design and materials used give the headset a premium feeling with the mix of metal and matte wrapped plastics which also lends to the headset having a durable frame which has survived many drops on hard flooring and with the mod kit makes a very comfortable wear for long periods of time. I even have had higher quality in terms of sound and fit such as the JBL Quantum One but I easily went back to this headset because of the wireless capability and the better to customize sound profiles.

Headset is great but firmware bugs are annoying

This is a great headset but there is one major issue that exists since the first firmware update keeps it from being what it could be. Granted this version of the headset has only been out for a short amount of time but it is unacceptable to be so slow at sending out a fix for a premium product. I have had this headset for a few weeks now playing on a variety of games including Gears 5 and Borderlands 3. I am also using the Xbox version. First the good: -Solid build: Looks and feels like a like a premium headset should. Heavier than other headsets I have owned but not in a bad way. -Sound: Excellent once you find and adjust the right audio profile. I thought my previous headset was pretty decent (Turtle Beach 550x) but the clarity and 'surround' sound improvement on these is definitely noticeable. -Buttons: Easy to switch between sound profiles, Dolby sound, and change volume without taking it off or hunting around. My Turtle Beach sets were always hard to change settings without accidentally hitting another button. - Battery: Will last for appox. 15 hrs. I have only charged it once and it wasn't completely drained so their battery length estimates seem to be accurate. - Base Station - Convenient way to charge your headset as well as see the charge level, sound profile, and Dolby indicator. I love that you don't have to guess how much charge you have left or what sound setting you are on. - Astro App - You can download the app right to the Xbox to change the sound profiles. Now for the bad: - Xbox not recognizing it: There is a bug with the latest firmware where the headset is not recognized when you first turn on the Xbox. You have to unplug the Base Station, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in and then it will be recognized. Sometimes I have to do it more than once for it to pick it up. It is easy to do but it is really annoying being how much the headset costs. This is a known issue with the Xbox version but no word on when it will be updated yet. -Ear cups: Pretty comfortable but the material could be a little better. I find them a little warm since it is almost fleece like. My Turtle Beach set had a much better breathable type of fabric. - Base station - worst part about it is that it is a little big. It is a trade-off with it also being a charging station. My previous headsets had a small transmitter that could be tucked away where this requires a bigger footprint. -Sound Profiles - the ones they had pre-loaded were not great. There is a list I found on reddit that VASTLY improved the sound. How can they not have Sound Engineers tune them for games? -Astro App - not the most user friendly unless you are familiar with sound mixing. - I don't like you need to plug the Base Station into a PC to update the firmware initially. I am not sure if you can do it through the Xbox app since I wasn't aware of it until after I did the update. If it can be, it is not well spelled out that way anywhere. I did not have the low volume issue that some people have complained about but I think changing the sound profiles solves that. I have also not fully tested the mic yet. I do like that you can flip it up to mute but there is no indicator that it is actually muted. It seems like it is but it would be nice to have something that confirms it. They should have put a mute indicator on the Base Station as well. So overall, I do like the headset once I get it recognized and I am using it. Once they resolve the major bug of the Xbox not recognizing it I think it will be the best headset I have owned and close to perfect in terms of sound and design. At that point I think there will only be a need of some minor improvements.

Just like Cap in End Game (SPOILERS?), the updated A50 headset is worth of the cost. My puppy recently decided to try out my old A40 TR headset and forced my hand (corgis aren't as innocent as they seem!). So begrudingly I spent the $300 after reading plenty of reviews on the revised A50 headset and I can honestly say I'm glad I did. For one, upgrading to a wireless headset is so convenient. Example: last night I had Spiderverse playing on my second monitor while I worked on the other and I was able to walk into the kitchen for a drink without having to pause the movie. On top of that, having a headset mount without cables is such a space saver which leads to a cleaner, sleeker desktop space. As for gaming, the sound is crystal clear, the mic works exactly as advertised and it fits comfortably for long periods of time. If this isn't in your budget, no shame there. However, if you can afford this headset, you won't regret it.

Good sound(not great). Excellent comfort. The first pair I had broke within a month or so. The headband is poorly designed, held together by a small piece of plastic. Astro customer service was excellent, however. They sent a second pair out right away, telling me to keep the first set. The headband can be "fixed" but replacing the headset was appreciated. No issues with this second pair.

I have been an Astro A 50 user since the Gen 1 came out. I have used the Gen 1 A50s for everything on the Xbox platform, from games to movies and music. The Gen 1 mic has always been solid and audio is really good. When I saw that they came out with the Gen 4 A50s, I fell in love since they are not the annoying Lime Green color and more generalized in colors. The additional features with the smaller base and wireless chat (NO MORE CHAT CABLE), I was hooked to pick one up. Picked it up and unboxed the A50s and loved the lightweight and sturdy headset. I tested with a bunch of friends over Xbox Live and they said the mic sounds better and crisper. The Audio is really good, but still, get the digital tinniness sound for the highs in games like Rainbow Six and Overwatch. Nothing horrible, just my ears are sensitive to awkward sounds. I tested with movies, music, and games and they all sound great. ALSO, included for the Xbox users is 2 years of Dolby Atmos for great sound quality! I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a fully wireless experience. I look at it as a "Buy Once, Cry Once" for the cost of these, but I figure if my Gen 1 A50s lasted this long, I would expect these Gen 4 A50s to last just as long.

This is a good headset for gaming. When I use it for long gaming sessions and for school work it’s comfortable and feels good on my head. The wireless is good, although I wish it had Bluetooth. This headset is perfect other than using micro usb :/. Overall, this headset is a good overall wireless gaming headset :). Oh also I added the mic foam from my old headset it does not come with the foam

I’m giving them 4 star only because there are times when the headset looses connection to the wireless base. This is really annoying. Also, there was an issue where they wouldn’t charge, found a video on how to reset the wireless base and headset and it works again. That being said, amazing sound! Awesome app that’s lets you control all your sound settings, in addition to being the most comfortable headset I’ve owned with hours of enjoyable gameplay which is also highlighting the amazing battery life! If they could fix the annoying problems they would be worth every penny.

I started out with the Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 and fell in love but we have a high-traffic home and as it is a wired set, the cables soon proved to be too much of a hassle. Enter the Astro. The sound quality is fantastic. Crystal clear, even at unhealthy volume levels and the directional accuracy is superb. I can easily tell where sounds are coming from; to the left, right, above, below, wherever. If it makes noise, you'll find it. I placed my game character in front of a waterfall and looked straight at it. Slowly turning from left to right, the sound was dead on as to which earpiece was projecting and gave a surround sound effect that simply cannot be duplicated with TV speakers or most sound bars. Gone are the days of frantically spinning around to see where enemy fire is originating as the Astro directs you to the commotion with pinpoint accuracy. Some have said that placing the headset in the charger is tricky but the magnetic contact points pull it down to the right spot 90% of the time for me. My only negative comments are that a separate wall charging adapter would have been nice since I power my PS4 down when not in use so having the charging cable plugged into the console does me no good. The plastic microphone feels like it needs a stiffer wire inside as getting it to stay in the right place can be tricky. Its very flexible, which is good so that it doesn't break off but it does take adjusting every once in a while. My biggest dislike is the narrow strip of foam padding under the headband. The headband itself is plenty wide but the foam pad that sits on your head is narrow, like an inch or less. It makes a hot spot right on the peak of your dome. If the pad were as wide as the headband it would double the contact area and distribute the weight better. That being said, I have lots of charging adapters, the microphone is adequate and the headband isn't uncomfortable, just all the weight in one spot so really, I have no major complaints and I love not having the kids or dogs tripping over cords and ripping the headset off. A+ effort Astro! My Turtle Beach set is back in the box.

Great headset. Pain to set up on Series X.

Ok, where to start. Getting these to work for my series x was a real pain. First of all, the instuctions only show you how to set up a xb1 or pc. No mention of series x. I had already read reviews, and knew that for these to work on the Series X that I'd have to update it with Astros command center for pc or Mac. So as soon as I opened them I connected it to pc. It prompted for a firmware update, and updated both headset and base station. I then flipped the little switch on back of the station to xbox and connected to Series X via USB. It detected the headset. So you then have to mess with setting for audio, and then download dolby access app for xbox. After doing all that, I put headset on, and nothing. I worked on this for multiple hours. Restarting headset, connecting base station and headset back to pc to see if there was another update, and eventually I gave up. Took them back and exchanged for same headset thinking I had a faulty one. I get home with them, repeat everything again, and still nothing. I did notice that the firmware it installed on new pair started with a 4 this time. The previous pair started with a 5. So after doing a hard reset on head set and downloading the astro command center app for xbox, it finally through a prompt saying I needed to update my firmware using a pc. So for the millionth time I connect it to pc, launch command center, and it prompted for update. When it finished updating, I noticed the firmware for both headset and base station started with a 6. So I plug it back into the Xbox via USB, held my breath, turned headset on, and after multiple hours, and headsets, it finally worked. Every video I watched on installing these(because lack of actual instructions in box for series x) made it look simple. Update, plug in, download dolby and change sound set up in settings on xbox. This was not the case for me. Only by doing a hard reset on the headset was I finally able to get it to prompt for a second update to the right firmware. With that said, sound is great, headset is comfortable, and I really enjoy them. I wanted to share my experience on here to maybe help somebody else who may be going through the same headache I did when setting these up. If your firmware doesn't start with a 6 after the update, they will not work for Series X. Try hard reseting the headset and connecting it back to pc to see if it forces it to update to right firmware. It worked for me, but I may have just got lucky. Good luck!

Nice set of headphones! Great sound, battery life, and comfortable for long gaming sessions. My TB Elite 800 pair finally gave out so I was looking for something comparable and these fit the bill. Full disclosure I liked the TB 800s better, but got these as an open box item at a reduced price. Also for other people with large heads out there, these fit my (7 3/4 hat size) head nicely! Would be an easy 5 stars if they were just a touch cheaper!

Ive had previous generation Astro A50’s (Gen II) and these have einilar soundquality to those. These are semi-open back headphones even though they are listed as closed, sound leaks in and out quite a bit. They highs are not quite as crisp as some high dollar headphones like Sennheiser but i do find the bass stronger in these. The range is quite nice, i can use them just about anywhere in the house. The velour cups they use make the headphones quite comfortable as well, if you have a big head the clip that holds the top together might pop apart sometimes but thats my only complaint.
